Armageddon
I have always been fascinated with machines and war. This drawing is a collage of the machinery of war: tanks, attack helicopters, missiles, artillery and bomber aircraft. In the center is the cockpit view of an aircraft on a runway getting ready for takeoff, surrounded by instrumentation and mechanical structures. Also in the design are archetypal symbols meant to depict the apocalyptic nature of modern war, which will eventually lead to Armageddon: The Star of David, which will appear prominently on the battlefield, and the Mayan Ninth Lord of the Night, which symbolizes the beginning of the end.
The original drawing is 14"x17", hand drawn using a 0.25 mm Rapidograph pen and black India ink. The initial design was created using a pencil, compass, ruler and protractor. Once the design was created, I drew the final image free-hand over the pencil drawing in ink. The primary design for the drawing is a two-fold symmetry axis reflecting a mirror image of the upper and lower halves.
